Brief history of Dota 2

video games

The game Dota 2 came out already back in 2011, but not everyone knows that the universe of “Defense of the Ancients” appeared long before the release of the brainchild from Valve. Dota has never been a unique entity. Throughout its history, the Dota universe was an admixture and mixture of dozens of other people’s ideas. For example, in 2002 a custom map for Warcraft 3: Reign of Chaos called Defense of the Ancients was released, which included a bunch of copied stuff from other maps and didn’t stand out much on its own.

After leaving the community, the mapper of the above map opened its source code, and thus hundreds of players of that time started to change and edit Dota themselves. Very quickly, a huge number of different variations and maps appeared, but only one – DotA Allstars – was able to truly gain a foothold in the hearts of gamers. Since then, Dota has gone through a thorny path of various edits, updates, until in 2011 Valve bought Dota and IceFrog.

This event changed not only the fate of Dota and many players, but also brought the whole Cybersport to a new level. From that moment on, that’s where Cybersports began. Tournaments worth millions of dollars, major LAN championships, crowds of fans, high salaries for sought-after cybersports players, top advertisers in the form of bookmakers, car brands and airlines. Thanks to this development and popularity, Dota 2 betting has become in demand. Today you can bet in Dota 2 and earn very well on it.

The essence of the game

Dota 2 is an online MOBA game. Two teams of 5 people each fight for different sides – for Light and for Darkness. The ultimate goal of any match is to destroy the enemy main building (throne). Each player controls his own hero, of which there are 134 in Dota. All of these heroes have unique looks, characteristics, abilities, and gameplay.

Within a match, heroes and players are divided into roles. For example, Kerry (the first position) has the task of gaining more money as quickly as possible, because as a rule, in the beginning these heroes are weak, but towards the end they are able to break the enemy team single-handedly. Or another example – Sapports – whose task is to make life as easy as possible for their cor characters, and make it difficult for the enemy. Support characters in Dota set up wards, save, press smokies, make ganks, guard their kerry or mid, and sacrifice themselves for the team in a fierce battle.

Both sides (Light and Dark) mirror each other. The exception is Roshan. This is a special creature, for killing which the team gets various bonuses (Aegis of Resurrection, ability upgrades, cheese and so on). Dota has evolved a lot during this time, so now various objects on the map are very important. These include towers, Roshan, and enemy forests.

Throughout the game, teams perform various actions through which they build up an advantage. In the end, a team needs to win the last fight, enter the highground (the opponent’s base) correctly and destroy the throne. In professional Dota, teams often write “gg” before actually destroying the throne, when they realize that they can’t win on this map.
