New World Game Review

video games

New World is a PC exclusive MMORPG and the first major release from Amazon Games. After some delays, the game was finally released in September 2021, full of fan expectations. The game is already the most popular: it passed Valheim with 700,000 simultaneous hits against 502,000, and is close to the mark of 1,000 players online at the same time. One of New World’s main differences is its battle system, which is slower and more strategic, reminiscent of Dark Souls-style games. Unlike other MMORPGs where you only need to press shortcuts to cast spells and defeat monsters and enemies, in New World your choice of stance and combat style is vital to the success of the adventure.

It’s worth noting that this “hardcore” system may not appeal to everyone, especially the most casual players. However, in those moments when you’re not fighting other users, the gameplay becomes more comfortable.

Freedom of choice

In New World, unlike the vast majority of games of the same genre, there is no specific class system. That is, everyone can use the type of equipment they want. Anyone from a mage with heavy equipment to a warrior with a sword and shield in light clothing.

There are stronger or weaker combinations, but the option to leave that choice up to the player is very interesting, because this way everyone decides for themselves how they want to play.

In addition, the game gives you the opportunity to reorganize your skill points at a very low price, and thus the player can test different gameplay options. The game still has the freedom to choose a faction after passing a certain level: unlike most MMORPGs here, there is no obligation to make a decision immediately at character creation. This helps the user to make this decision on some basis that is of great importance in their adventure.

Content

The game provides a lot of content both between players and in the user’s relationship with the environment. Although the story is not very exciting (which is very bad for an RPG), we can complete several missions in the main story, faction and cities. At the same time, the user will always be busy with some kind of map mission.

The big problem is that these missions are extremely repetitive. The point that strained the most during gameplay was the lack of variety: there is little variety in enemies and quest types. These are mostly crate collecting and monster killing quests, which in turn don’t vary much.

On the other hand, expeditions, which are the famous “dungeons” MMORPG, are very well developed. During the tests, it was possible to participate in two of them. In addition to the excellent setting, with different scenarios, they also presented mechanics that require attention and teamwork from players.
